About Trasmed

Trasmed is the Balearic operator of the Italian Grimaldi Group, based in Valencia. According to the company, it connects Barcelona and Valencia daily with Mallorca, Menorca, Ibiza and Formentera, and extends the network from Barcelona with Grimaldi Lines' routes to Sardinia and Italy. The brand dates from 2021: in July of that year, Grimaldi bought Armas Trasmediterránea's Balearic operations; from autumn 2021 the initial six ships were rebranded, and by the end of 2022 they carried Grimaldi's blue livery with the Grimaldi Trasmed name. That marked the end, after more than a century, of the Trasmediterránea brand in the Balearics, founded by the banker Juan March in 1916. In timetables and booking systems you may therefore still see the operator listed as Trasmed GLE, Grimaldi Trasmed or under the old name Trasmediterránea.

Ships

Trasmed operates conventional car ferries with seats and cabins, not fast ferries. On the Mallorca routes, the current feed shows the Ciudad de Barcelona, Ciudad de Palma, Ciudad de Granada and Ciudad de Soller; Ciudad de Palma and Ciudad de Granada received exhaust scrubbers during the rebrand. Which accommodation - seat or cabin - and which onboard facilities your sailing offers is shown at the booking step for the specific ship.

Routes to Mallorca

From the mainland, Trasmed sails Barcelona-Palma, Barcelona-Alcúdia and Valencia-Palma, usually as overnight sailings with cabins. Between the islands, the operator serves Ibiza-Palma on selected dates in around four hours, plus the two longer routes from Menorca, Mahón-Palma and Mahón-Alcúdia, around once a week in the current feed and only outside summer. The specific departures are shown in the timetable.

Check-in, Vehicle and Pet

Check-in closes 60 minutes with a vehicle and 30 minutes on foot before the scheduled departure, or 45 minutes on foot for departures from Palma; latecomers have no right to boarding. Every traveller, including babies and pets, needs their own boarding pass issued in their name - online, in the app or at the port desk. The vehicle must match the one entered on the ticket and have the booked length and height; garages stay closed during the crossing. Trasmed carries bicycles, surfboards and kayaks free of charge, and pets travel with their own ticket and accommodation that depends on the ship. More in the guides Taking your car to Mallorca, Motorhomes on the ferry and Taking your dog on the ferry.

Tickets and Fares

At purchase you choose one of three tiers: Sin Flexibilidad, Flexibilidad Media or Flexibilidad Plus. Depending on the tier, date, route, time and accommodation can be changed; cancellation is only possible with Flexibilidad Plus and is refunded on a sliding scale based on how close you are to the travel date, with a deduction on the day itself. After check-in and boarding passes have been issued, changes and cancellations are ruled out. Regular travellers collect points in the Club MyTrasmed, and Balearic residents get the state discount with proof of residency. The price overview shows the route comparison, and the amount is confirmed in the booking window.
