About Grandi Navi Veloci

Grandi Navi Veloci, known as GNV, is an Italian ferry company headquartered in Genoa. Aldo Grimaldi founded it in 1992, and it has been part of the MSC Group since 2010. The company says it operates 25 ships on 33 routes to 23 destinations across the Mediterranean: from Italy to Sicily, Sardinia, Albania, Tunisia, Algeria and Morocco, and from Spain to the Balearics. The Balearic lines - from Barcelona to Palma, Mahón and Ibiza, and from Valencia to Palma and Ibiza - are the company's Spanish mainstay, carrying freight and passengers on the same ships.

Fleet

GNV operates only large conventional ferries with cabins, no fast ferries. The GNV Sealand is among the ships on the Mallorca route: 26,904 gross tonnes, around 186 metres long, carrying 880 passengers. The fleet also includes ships such as La Suprema, Excellent, Fantastic and Splendid, as well as the newer GNV Polaris, GNV Orion and GNV Virgo. Depending on the ship, onboard facilities include a restaurant, self-service dining, a pizzeria, a bar, Sea-Fi internet and a prayer room; accommodation ranges from deck passage and reclining seats to Standard, Premium and Deluxe cabins and suites.

Routes to Mallorca

Barcelona-Palma takes about 6¼ hours according to the operator, and 6½ hours in the return direction; crossing time depends on the ship and weather. Valencia-Palma is the second Mallorca route, also with cabins or reclining seats. GNV shares both connections with Baleària and Trasmed - comparing sailings in the timetable shows which operator sails at your preferred time.

Check-in, vehicles and pets

All passengers must check in, either online in the customer area or at the port; with a vehicle you need to be at the port at least two hours before departure. At check-in, GNV verifies the number plate and vehicle dimensions - discrepancies cost the fare difference plus an amendment fee; vehicles running on LPG must be declared at boarding. Only the driver travels with the vehicle onto the ship; everyone else walks via the passenger route, and the garage is closed during the crossing, so take everything you need with you. Pets travel in a booked pet-friendly cabin or in the onboard kennel or cat area - other cabins are off-limits; from summer 2026, pets will also be allowed in designated areas of onboard dining and shops. For travel to Spain, GNV requires a microchip, valid rabies vaccination and pet passport, and pets under 15 weeks cannot enter. Tickets and fares

The price depends on season, accommodation, vehicle and pets; cabins and reclining seats are supplements to deck passage. Extras such as late check-out, priority disembarkation or pre-purchased onboard catering can be added, Balearic residents get a dedicated fare, and regular travellers collect points in the myGNV Club.
