Corsica Ferries is a French-Italian ferry company headquartered in Bastia, Corsica. It was founded in 1968 by Pascal P. Lota under the name Corsica Line; its first ship, the Corsica Express, linked Corsica with Italy. Over the following decades came routes to France, the Sardinia Ferries brand through the takeover of Italy's TTE, and fast ferries from 1996 onwards. The Mega-Express ships have defined the fleet since 2001, and by 2004 the company says it carried more passengers to Corsica than any competitor for the first time. The yellow hulls remain its trademark to this day. In recent years, Corsica Ferries has also begun sailing to the Balearics: from Toulon and Sète to Alcúdia and on to Menorca.
Fleet
The company says it operates ten ships with a capacity of up to 2,500 passengers. The Mega-Express class offers more than 500 cabins, an à la carte restaurant, a coffee shop, self-service dining, a pool, bars, a children's area and a boutique; the sister ships Mega Smeralda and Mega Andrea are 171.5 metres long, 28 metres wide, cruise at 22 knots and carry 2,000 passengers and 560 vehicles each. Mega Regina (2021) and Mega Victoria (2023) have most recently joined the fleet. Mega-Express ships operate the Mallorca routes, though the specific ship varies by date.
Routes to Mallorca
The core route is Toulon-Alcúdia: an overnight crossing arriving the next morning, with a few sailings a week in season according to the operator. Sète-Alcúdia adds seasonal individual sailings from the Languedoc coast. Within the Balearics, Corsica Ferries runs the Ciutadella-Alcúdia leg on certain days as part of its Toulon rotation, taking around two and a half hours - slower than the fast ferries, but with cabins and restaurants. According to the operator, Alcúdia is about a 50-minute drive from Palma.
Check-in, vehicles and pets
For the Mallorca sailings from Sète, Corsica Ferries specifies 90 minutes' notice with a vehicle and 30 minutes on foot; in Toulon it recommends being at the port at least two hours before departure. Online check-in opens seven days before departure; you can choose your cabin, correct vehicle details - such as a bike rack or roof box - and load your boarding card onto your phone. Cars, motorbikes and motorhomes travel on all Mega-Express ships; dedicated fare deals exist for campers and motorbikes. Dogs travel in special cabins with lino flooring and are allowed in designated lounge and restaurant areas, always on a lead in public areas and muzzled if agitated; cats and small pets stay in a carrier. Tickets and fares
Corsica Ferries sells a Standard and a Flex fare, plus fixed-price cabins, seats in enclosed lounges and extras such as breakfast in the cabin or late check-out. For overnight crossings the operator recommends a cabin; cabins must be vacated one hour before arrival, while on day sailings they're ready 30 minutes after departure.
