Ferries from the Spanish mainland
Most ferry connections to Mallorca start on the east coast of Spain in the regions of Catalonia and Valencia. Regular crossings are offered all year round from Barcelona, Valencia and in some cases Dénia. In the high season, the frequency often increases significantly.
All routes from the mainland to Mallorca are classic car ferries, so that cars, motorhomes and motorcycles can be transported without any problems.
Barcelona - Palma de Mallorca
The Barcelona-Palma route is served all year round by the shipping companies Baleària, Trasmed GLE (Trasmediterránea) and Grandi Navi Veloci (GNV). There are usually daily departures, often as night ferries. In the summer high season, there are sometimes several ferries a day.
The crossing takes around 7-8 hours, depending on the ship. Cabins and seats are available on board, and vehicles can of course be taken on board.
Barcelona - Palma
3 Ferry Companies
Barcelona - Alcúdia (Mallorca)
There is a fast ferry connection from Barcelona to Alcúdia in the north of Mallorca. This is operated by Baleària (partly also Trasmed) and runs all year round - usually daily in summer, somewhat less frequently in winter.
High-speed catamarans are used on this route, which only take around 3.5 hours for the crossing. This makes it the fastest connection from the mainland to Mallorca.
Vehicles can also be taken on the high-speed ferries. However, due to the short journey time, there are no cabins, only seats.
Barcelona - Alcudia
2 Ferry CompaniesValencia - Palma de Mallorca
There are also ferries from Valencia to Palma all year round. Baleària, Trasmed and GNV together usually offer at least one crossing daily, usually overnight. In the high season, there are often up to two departures per day.
The journey time is around 7 to 8 hours. All Valencia ferries are classic ro-pax ships that transport vehicles as well as passengers.
Valencia - Palma
3 Ferry CompaniesDénia - Palma de Mallorca
The Dénia-Palma route is served by Baleària with fast ferries. It operates mainly in the summer months: Between late spring and fall, there are about 7 crossings per week. During the winter, the timetable is sometimes greatly reduced.
The crossing on this route only takes around 5¼ hours. There are no cabins on board the fast ferry used, but there are comfortable seats. Vehicles, including cars, can be taken on board.
This connection offers a speedy alternative, especially for travelers from the Alicante and Valencia area.
Denia - Palma
Ferries from France
There are also seasonal ferry connections to Mallorca from the south of France. In the summer months in particular, ferry companies offer crossings from the ports of Toulon and Sète.
These routes are usually only operated once to three times a week and are significantly longer than the Spanish routes. All France-Mallorca ferries are car ferries with cabins, as the journeys take place overnight.
Toulon - Alcúdia (Mallorca)
The Toulon-Alcúdia ferry connection is operated by Corsica Ferries. In the summer months there are up to 2 departures per week, out of season usually only single crossings.
The route crosses the Mediterranean and takes around 14-17 hours, depending on the ship and weather conditions. Night trips with departure in Toulon in the evening and arrival in Alcúdia the next morning are common.
Vehicles can be taken on the large ferries without any problems. Cabins, recliners, restaurants and other amenities are available on board.
Toulon - Alcudia
Sète - Alcúdia (Mallorca)
A ferry also runs from the port of Sète near Montpellier to Alcúdia from time to time in summer. This route has been offered in recent years by Corsica Ferries and GNV, with approximately one crossing per week - mainly in the high season.
The journey time is around 12-14 hours, depending on the ship. These are also overnight ferries with car deck and cabins.
Note: The availability of this route may vary depending on the season. There are often no departures in the winter season.
Sete - Alcudia
Routes between the islands
In addition to the mainland, the neighboring islands are also connected to Mallorca by ferry. There are year-round ferry connections between Mallorca, Menorca, Ibiza and (indirectly) Formentera, which are intensified in the summer season.
Both large car ferries and fast catamarans are used on these routes. It is also generally possible to take vehicles on the island ferries.
Ciutadella (Menorca) - Alcúdia (Mallorca)
The most important connection between Menorca and Mallorca is from Ciutadella to Alcúdia. Baleària operates high-speed ferries here all year round and offers up to 3-4 departures daily in the high season - this corresponds to around 18-20 crossings per week.
The crossing only takes around 1 hour 15 minutes with the high-speed ferries.
In addition, the provider Menorca Lines operates a fast ferry on this route with currently around 3 crossings per week. In the summer months, even Corsica Ferries occasionally operates on the route - about once a week with a journey time of around 2½ hours.
All ferries allow cars to be taken on board. However, due to the short duration, there are usually no cabins available.
Ciutadella - Alcudia
3 Ferry CompaniesMahón (Menorca) - Alcúdia (Mallorca)
There is a direct ferry connection between Mahón (Maó), the capital of Menorca, and Alcúdia on Mallorca operated by Trasmed. It runs about once a week, mostly as a seasonal service in summer.
The journey time for the Mahón-Alcúdia route is around 3¾ hours. This line is also designed as a car ferry, but with a significantly lower frequency than the Ciutadella connection.
Mahon - Alcudia
Mahón (Menorca) - Palma de Mallorca
There is also an occasional ferry from Mahón directly to Palma de Mallorca without a stopover. This route is operated by Trasmed about once a week, mainly in the summer season.
The crossing takes about 6 hours. The ferry has vehicle decks and cabins. This direct connection saves the detour via Alcúdia, but is only available to a very limited extent.
Mahon - Palma
Ibiza - Palma de Mallorca
Ferries run between Ibiza and Mallorca (Palma) all year round, providing a convenient link between the two main islands of the Balearic Islands.
Baleària operates fast catamaran ferries on the route (for example the Eleanor Roosevelt), which only take around 2¼ hours for the Ibiza-Palma route. In addition, Trasmed operates with conventional ferries, with a journey time of 3-4 hours.
In the high season, there are daily departures in both directions, often several per day. In winter, there is at least one daily connection. Vehicles can be taken on both ferry companies.
Note: As the fastest ferries are relatively short, they usually have no cabins, only seats.
Ibiza - Palma
2 Ferry CompaniesFormentera - Palma de Mallorca
The small island of Formentera does not have a direct permanent line to Mallorca. However, Baleària offers a direct ferry between Formentera (La Savina) and Palma in the summer months (from around June to October).
This connection is usually operated daily and takes around 3½ to 4 hours. The ferry often makes a short stopover in Ibiza, so there is no need to change ferries.
In the low season, you have to change ferries from Formentera to Mallorca via Ibiza - i.e. use Formentera-Ibiza and Ibiza-Palma as separate ferries. Cars can also be taken on the direct summer route.
